I attended Hermitage Park from 1952 to 1958 and loved it. It holds very special memories for me and I am pleased that it is still going strong. At one time my classroom was in the big hut in the playground and it had a coal stove. Miss Batty our teacher would let us dry our gloves on the fireguard in the winter after playing in the snow. My other lovely teachers were Miss McLaren and Mr McWhirter. The Headteacher was Mr Sanderson a very stern man. I used to tell my children that it was my "little wooden school" . Happy days!

I didn't know this site existed until I started tracing my family tree. I went to Hermitage Park 1960-1971 and lived in Ferrier Street, Leith. My teacher was Miss Lothian. Memories I had were playing for the netball team, eating school dinners in the wooden hut, looking after the first and second year little ones during bad weather, being last in the queue for injections from the Nurse, winning the Burns prize and, totally out of character then and now, having a fight with Valerie Stoker at the front gates. I had a fabulous time and loved my early years in Leith and at primary school. If only we could bring them back. Love to hear from anyone who may know me - some classmates were Colin Liddle, Alex Scott, Margaret McKenzie, The 'Love' twins, Alex Trench, Karen Pompeii, James Milne and many more. Regards Lorna

Would love to trace Violet Docherty who is looking for me.We attended between 1963 and 1969. Violet and I were Best Freinds, and I would love to Hear from her. She left me no Direct route to contact her, so I hope she looks in and sees me email address.
We were at school when the New Dinner Hall was built, prior to that our lunches were served in a Long Wooden Hut., and the excitement the first time we entered the New Dining Hall, and every table had a Jug of Water in the centre...We felt so Grown Up!
I also remember Miss Montomery reading The Witch The Lion and the Wardrobe. She installed a Love of Reading at a very early age. Oh Those Were The Days! But I have to say I am 50yrs old now, and Still Never Got To Grips with French.
Fond Memories.

I attended Hermie Park in the sixties, teachers I most remember are Mr Guthrie, Miss Montgomery and at the time the Headmaster was Mr Mc Alistair.
I now (in my middle age) realise just how progresive this school actually was.
Miss Montgomery read our class 'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe' I think that was primary 4 or 5. Thank you Miss M, for me this was a life changing experience. I am still trying to get through the wardrobe into Narnia....

Miss M also gave us the fundamentals of the French language in same class.....I still remember.

I would love to get in touch with my best friend from those school years, Valerie Myles if you are out there Violet Docherty (now Quesnel) would love to get in touch.

Hermitage Park, a most wonderful start to life

I attended nursery and school here way back in the 70's! My kids now attend school and nursery here, and I feel that they are still getting the best education available, at the best school in Edinburgh! Very impressed by the nursery, and its role in teaching the kids to save the planet - WELL DONE!

I attended 'Hermie' at the same time as Andrew Nimmo, my last class was also taken by Mr Miller, I can honestly say I loved that school, I have so many fond memories (of the wooden school as it used to be called!) I am so pleased to see how it has prospered and the Nursery Class looks great. Well done Hermie

I loved the staff photos from the nursery, in fact I'm sure I recognised at least one of them! Seriously though the children are obviously having fun learning. What a good idea to teach them about growing vegetables and recycling at such a young age.

What a great idea to bury a time capsule. It's fantastic to see such budding devoted environmentalists. Keep up the good work. For those who know me, I'm still cycling and running!

As a former pupil I'm delighted to see that the school prospers and has a new colourful facade. My last year at Hermie would have been 1978 and my class was taken by Mr Miller. At the time I lived in Restalrig Circus though I have travelled since then and write this comment from Auckland, NZ.

Well done and congratulations in ensuring the prosperity and longevity of the school.

Rgds,
