Hermitage Park Primary celebrates its centenary on 9th May 2010

We are learning Super Heroes

Welcome to our web page.  We are delighted that you have found us! On our web page you will be able to find out about the exciting things happening in our nursery.

We have a morning nursery class and an afternoon nursery class both of 30 pupils. We can accept applications from parents as soon as their child reaches their second birthday, although no child may be admitted to nursery class until they have reached their third birthday.

Our nursery staff are:

Mrs Pedersen            Mrs Ferguson              Mrs Dignan                 Miss Hannah            Miss Burgess

The Nursery is staffed at all times by one teacher and two nursery nurses. Our nursery teacher is Joan Dignan. Nursery nurses Janis Pedersen and Louise Ferguson work mornings. Nursery nurses Nicola Hannah and Linsey Burgess work afternoons.

Our morning session times are Monday to Friday 8.55am to 11.30am

Our afternoon session times are Monday to Friday 12.25pm to 3.00pm

We aim to:-

  • provide a high standard of education and care
  • provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment
  •  create opportunities for learning through play
  • provide professional and highly motivated staff
  •  encourage positive attitudes to self and others, promoting equality and fairness
  • develop confidence and self esteem in each child
  •  encourage independence
  • stimulate interest and imagination
  •  encourage the children to communicate ideas and feelings
  • develop awareness of the wider world, and their impact on it
  • work in close partnership with parents
Please note that we have been asked by the Education Authority to stress the fact that because a child is enrolled in our Nursery Class does not guarantee that child a place in our Primary 1 class.  We are also required to inform parents that the Education Authority does not support the attendance of individual children at more than one nursery school or class. Although parents may apply for a nursery placement in more than one establishment, attendance will be restricted to one establishment only.

The Scottish Care Commisson inspected our nursery on 5th March 2009. The resulting report was very successful with the nursery being awarded a combination of 'excellent' and 'very good' grades.

Comments from carers included-

"The atmosphere is calm, warm and safe as well as being a bustling and stimulating environment."

"The staff provide an excellent service and the dedication and commitment from staff to provide an excellent quality of care to my child ensures great peace of mind to myself."

The full report is available online at http://www.carecommission.com or in paper copy from the nursery.

Over the past few weeks we have been very busy in nursery. The photos show children having fun in our shop, baking,

measuring, glueing and looking at books. We all dressed up on Hallowe'en - very scary!

After a succesful trial of the Nintendo Wii, we have now purchased one for nursery.

The Wii will be used only if it is wet outside and we are unable to go outside to play. The Wii will

help children  develop skills such as :- taking turns, sharing, persevering with a task, recognising

numbers, developing spatial awareness and most importantly develoing self-esteem.

We all went on a train trip. It was very exciting. The train went through a long tunnel.

Welcome back to everybody after the summer break.

ideas as to what we could investigate next - hatching of chickens and the life cycle of the butterfly.

We had a visit from Zoo Lab. Tristan showed us a toad, two rats and a snake. We had lots of fun.

                                       Hatching Eggs

This was a very successful cross cuurricular entreprenaurial learning and teaching experience. The children were very enthusiastic about this project and their excitement and expectations spread to their families and the wider community.

This activity has been highlighted by Learning and Teaching Scotland as an example of good practice in early years education. To find out more visit http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/enterpriseineducation/index.asp
