Homework
Homework
A minimal amount of homework is set from Monday to Thursday. In the Infant Department homework consists mainly of word recognition and reading practice. From Primary 3 to Primary 7, homework may consist of not only language work in the form of reading, spelling or vocabulary, but also of a certain amount of mathematics. The children may also from time to time be required to complete some research at home connected with a particular class project.
The value of homework is two-fold:-
(1) It encourages pupils to practise on their own at home the skills they will be using in class. The work given as homework should never be too difficult or time consuming. For this reason it consists most often of revision,
(2) It helps parents keep in contact with the work their child is currently tackling in class. We ask parents to supervise homework and see that it is attempted/completed on time, but please do not help a child who is really stuck. It is only by discovering the child is stuck that the teacher knows what help is required. Covering up and doing the homework for a bewildered child does not help.
We ask parents to sign reading and written homework so we know the child is keeping her parents in touch with the work she is doing: In addition teachers may use the homework notebooks as a means of communication or vice versa.
Please remember: Parental involvement/assistance with homework is VITAL
